Metal's Unholy Transition

More and more we are seeing metal bands incorporate electronic sounds in their music.

The metalcore scene has increasingly seen commercial success with these songs, but it has inevitably lead to the disgruntlement of original fans. Some bands that have recently made this shift are Bring Me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria, BLESSTHEFALL, Falling in Reverse, and Palisades.

Metal has identified itself as separate from the whole pop scene, yet in doing so has limited its audience. The ironic thing is metal fans don't give a fuck. We have our community and if you don't jive with how we roll then get the fuck out.

Our bands have always had this mentality until recently. This may be do to age and the idea of encompassing commercial and economic success, but when is enough enough?

I understand music is a business, but I am tired of seeing the bands I have fallen in love with change everything about their sound so that they can back hand original fans to find new ones.

Now I am going to stick around and listen to their new stuff because like all art music is ever changing and morphing into new explorative endeavors. Artists grow that is just a fact and I will have to grow with them. My only caveat is that they don't leave behind every aspect of their original sound, because that is how they grew their original fanbase.

Metal has never been about synthetic sounds and never will be, and if metal bands are converting their sound to incorporate these synthetic sounds over instrumental sounds they will no longer fall under the heavy metal genre. That is a fact.

I believe their is a way to incorporate both and that a balance can be found.
