Hired Gun Review

Hired Gun is a documentary covering the life of rock and roll's behind the scenes musicians. These are the musicians you will see on the cover of an album or even given acknowledgment in the credits. They are some of the most talented to go unnoticed, yet they have a lasting impact on the music entertainment business.

At times the documentary is uplifting and other times heartbreaking. The life of a hired gun is one of uncertainty. One day you will have the world in your hands, only to have it stripped from you the next.

The constant mobility of these artists is what gives them such a unique story.

Jason Hook, Five Finger Death Punch guitarist, started his career with playing for pop icons like Hillary Duff and found his way into Alice Cooper's band. Hook is now the lead guitarist for the platinum artist Five Finger Death Punch. He like all hired guns started by just trying to find a way to pay the bills and renting his services to musicians.

Not all hired guns have the same perfect ending.

Liberty Devitto, former drummer for Billy Joel, was left in the dust when Billy Joel let his fame run his friendships and morals into the ground.

Devitto has found joy in teaching drummers, but will forever remember Billy Joel's decision to kick him out of the band without even telling him. Though Devitto was a hired gun, he was in Billy Joel's band for 30 years.

Hired Gun covers these two and many more artists' stories. This documentary is a must for any rock fan and provides insight into the music industry that has never before seen the spotlight.
